After his exile, Jules’ life in Yorvik consisted of drink, women, and smooth talking inspectors who threatened his business. His end goal was a loft one, to become powerful enough to win the only woman who had ever scorned him. But during his last days in Yorvik his lofty goal suddenly seemed so much closer and at the same time more distant than it ever had before, as he was pushed into an arranged marriage set up by his father and Lord Mannix Savain.
The night his life changed was when he met a mysterious man by the name of Darkcrow, a member of the disdainful denizens, a group of thieves and criminals working in Svorinn. Darkcrow offered him the chance to further his business under the denizen’s protection. Jules agreed and made the deal that made himself useless within his own business.
For weeks Jules did nothing except wander Yorvik, bored from his own inability to act, until receiving a letter from the father of his bride-to-be, urging him to leave for Andelia soon. As Jules finally gave in and prepared to leave he found himself being stopped by Darkcrow and two companions, Caithas Thalornn and Greycloak. Jules was quickly amused and admiring of Caithas’ absolute lack of respect for his station as a nobleman, and the two began traveling together, Caithas acting as Jules’ bodyguard.
He arrived in Andelia, and by a twist of fate ended up face to face with his bride, Elana Savain, their first meeting awkward and difficult to say the least. And soon he met the soldier, Malcom Dominik, an agent of the Andelia guard. Jules couldn’t have been more wrong about his first impression of the guard. A soldier capable of turning two nobles and a bodyguard into a force of rebels ready to fight the power of the empire in order to win Svorinn’s freedom.
